Etiquette means to good manners which helps to transform a man into a gentleman.An individual must behave well in public to gain respect and appreciation from others. It is essential to behave in a socially acceptable way.

Interview is nothing but an interaction between the employer and potential employee where employer tries to judge the individual on various parameters for prospective employment in organization, an interview is a part of every dream job.

Knowing proper job interview etiquette is an important part of successful interviewing. How you dress, what you bring to a job interview, how you greet the interviewer, and how you communicate etc.

Finding a job during college is a challenging moment, especially when you are balancing classes,classwork ,extracurricular activities, and your social life also.It can be tricky even finding time to schedule interviews, so once you have an interview secured, it is important to make best of it again.When you have not do much practice interviewing , it can be hard to know what you will need to do ahead of time in order to ace your interview.Interview is not a stressful for candidate only it can be a pressure and lots of efforts for an interviewers also to find the right candidate for the job. Maintaining proper interview etiquette is an absolutely crucial first step to making a great impression.

The interview preparation includes 4P- 

  • Prepare
  • Practice
  • Present
  • Participate
Taking time to prepare is the most conscientious thing you can do before an interview. A job opening at a company at a company typically indicates a real need for more people , meaning that the individuals are interviewing with are taking time from their schedules to speak with you. The best way to be respectful of this time is to arrive fully prepared to answer their questions.

Let us go through some interview etiquette:
  • While appearing for telephonic interviews, make sure you have your resume (the resume should be your current activities)in front of you. Move to a quite place and keep a pen and notebook note your full address and other necessary details about you.
  • You must be present at the interview venue before time.start your journey from  home a little early , so you can be present the interview venue at correct time.Check the route well in advance to avoid last minute confusions.If you do not have own conveyance, book a cab or ask your friend or family member to drop you right outside the venue and avoid going by public transport that day.
  • Be particular on your appearance on that day, follow the professional dress code for an everlasting first impression and wear something which looks good on you.Wear a light color shirt with a dark color well fitted trouser. Make sure your shoes are well polished and do not make any sound when you walk. your hair should be neatly combed and apply a light weight perfume for smell good during the interview.
  • While enter into the interview room make sure that you must be fully confident.Greet him with a warm smile.Don't offer to shake hands if the interviewer is a female. Do not sit unless you have been told to sit.
  • The best way to respond interview questions is listen carefully to questions,take time to phrase your responses and ask the interviewer to repeat the question if you are not sure what they asking, but it should be only one time only. Keep in mind that your responses are your sales pitch, you are selling the interviewer on yourself as the best candidate for a interview and for the job. So be sure you focus on your relevancy,i.e why you are a good candidate, how you can do the job,What you can contribute and how you will benefit the company if you are hired.
  • Yes, a job interview is a high pressure situation for us, but freezing up and looking nervous will lose you points in the few critical moments you have to shine. Smiling naturally (without pursing your lips tightly together)will make you appear confident,friendly and approach.
  • Make an eye contact with all the interview who are present in the interview room,avoid looking here and there.Be honest with the interviewer, remember a single lie leads to several other lies.Avoid to the fake stories.It might you in trouble later.
  • Avoid being nervous during interview,remember no one will hang you till death if you do not clear the interview.There is always a second chance.    
  • One must sit straight for the desired impact.Avoid fiddling with pen and paper, it is important to have the right attitude as it helps you stand apart from the crowd.
  • Keep your phone in silent mode or switch off while attending interview. Mobile ringtone during interview is an offence .                                     
  • Chewing and eating something during the interview is childish.
  • Do not fold your resume.Instead keep it in proper folder and carry all other relevant documents which you might need during interview.Keep a passport size photograph .
  • Slang words and one liner word must not be used in interview period.
  • Avoid cracking jokes with the interviewer during interview period.
  • Once you are done with the interview, do not forget to thank the interviewer.
